The San Francisco 49ers traded their quarterback Trey Lance to the Dallas Cowboys. This happened less than three years after they used three top draft picks to choose him.
Someone who knows about this situation said the Cowboys will give a lower-value draft pick to San Francisco. In return, they will get a player who was picked as the third best in 2021. The person who shared this information didn’t want their name revealed because the deal isn’t public yet.
Recently, Lance was in a competition to be the second choice after Brock Purdy in San Francisco. But he lost to San Darnold, which led to him leaving the team.
This move is surprising because the 49ers had put a lot of effort into making Lance a top player, but now they’re changing direction.
In 2021, San Francisco gave away three top draft picks and another lower-value one to Miami. They did this to move up from the 12th position to the third and pick Lance, even though he didn’t have much experience playing.
Before the 49ers chose him, Lance had only started 17 games in college at North Dakota State. He didn’t have many chances to learn and play in the NFL.
