In the Hindu literary tradition, literary works teach both the common person and the connoisseur about Dharma and how to feel about it. As with all śāstras in the Indic knowledge traditions, kāvya and kāvya-śāstra, or literary composition and the theory of composition, have a well-established and standardised method, structure, and system. This is the second of four courses in Sahitya, which is classical Sanskrit literature that is mostly made up of metrical verses instead of prose. So, the theories of composition talk in depth about the parts and standards of poetry, and they shape how people in the Indic literary world think about beauty.
